You’re Invited! We hope you‘ll join us for our next Empowered #patientchat as we discuss the emotional impact of a serious illness.
Being diagnosed with a serious illness can feel overwhelming and you may experience a range of emotions. These emotions may change daily, hourly, or even minute to minute. This is normal. In this #patientchat, we want to discuss the signs of emotional distress, how to cope, and where to find resources and support.
Guiding our discussion will be the following Topic Questions (T#):
T1: Many patients feel overwhelmed after a major diagnosis. What can help? What can you do to take control? #patientchat
T2: Have you spoken with your doctor about the emotional impacts of your health condition? Why or why not? #patientchat
T3: What are the signs of emotional distress? How do you know when it’s time to get additional help? #patientchat
T4A: How has the current healthcare system met (or not met) your needs for emotional health and support? #patientchat
T4B: If you could improve the support you currently get through the healthcare system, what would it be? #patientchat
T5: What are some resources that are helpful in coping and dealing with your emotional distress? #patientchat
T6: A major diagnosis can place enormous pressure on relationships with loved ones, friends, family and co-workers. What can help? #patientchat
Empowered Patient Chats (#patientchat) are held every other Friday at 10:00 am Pacific / 1:00 pm Eastern and during the chat patients and advocates come to learn from each other and discuss topics of interest to empowered patients.
