You’re Invited! We hope you will join us for our next Empowered #patientchat as we discuss palliative care and chronic disease.
Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illness. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
This chat was influenced by the recent passing of the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA) in the House. PCHETA would improve the training of health professionals in palliative care, expand national research programs in palliative care, and educate families and health professionals about the value of palliative care. To become a law, it needs to also pass in the Senate and that’s where we come in!
Guiding our discussion will be the following Topic (T#:) Questions:
T1: What are your thoughts on palliative care? How do you define it? #patientchat
T2: Who should receive palliative care? When is it appropriate? #patientchat
T3: What services and benefits can palliative care specialists provide to chronic disease patients and their families? #patientchat
T4: What are the differences, if any, between palliative care, supportive care, and hospice care? #patientchat
T5: How can a patient ask or learn more about palliative care? HCPs: How can you approach patients about palliative care? #patientchat
BONUS: As empowered patients and care partners, what can we do to move PCHETA along? #patientchat
We hope to see you Friday, August 10th on Twitter (or tchat.io/rooms/
