You’re Invited! We hope you’ll join us for our next Empowered #patientchat discussion.
Medication adherence, or taking medications correctly, is generally defined as the extent to which patients take medication as prescribed by their doctors. It is estimated that 30% of prescriptions are never filled and 50% are not taken as prescribed.
There are a lot of “language traps” in healthcare. The general trend away from “medication compliance” toward using “medication adherence” didn’t address all the concerns when it comes to this issue. That there isn’t even agreement about what to call this topic brings up some of what makes this an important discussion. Look forward to everyone’s perspectives on the chat Friday!
Guiding our discussion will be the following Topic (T#:) Questions:
T1: Compliance? Adherence? Participation? What term resonates best with you, and why? #patientchat
T2: What affect do “industry terms” have when it comes to patient care? #patientchat
T3: Why do you think some patients do not take their medications as prescribed? #patientchat
T4: Have you ever not followed treatment or taken medication exactly as prescribed? #patientchat
T5: What is the role of care partners, HCPs, and/or technology in medication management? #patientchat
