Diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at just months of age, Jemela was born a warrior. Jemela now serves as a board member for the Uriel E. Owens Sickle Cell Disease Association. Through use of social media Jemela is a strong advocate for herself and her fellow sickle cell warriors. She documents her journey with sickle cell anemia and hopes to raise awareness and encourage others.
April Moreno PhD, MPA | Founder, Autoimmune Community Institute
Dr. April Moreno is a doctor of public health promotion sciences with several years of experience working in chronic disease prevention, intervention, and chronic disease control. Being diagnosed with a chronic illness herself during her doctorate program, she gives back in a multitude of ways such as serving as an autoimmune life coach for women. She has been an integrative wellness professional since 2017.
Summer Golden and Jeff Bushnell | MPN Network Managers
Summer Golden and Jeff Bushnell have been married for over 20 years. When Summer was diagnosed with myelofibrosis (MF), Jeff took on the role of care partner and advocate. Summer uses her years of theatre training and comedy to cope with her condition and help others, while maintaining positivity about the future. Summer shares, “we own, and run, the North Park Vaudeville theater. Jeff handles business and directing. I direct an acting program for actors with disabilities, act, and do comedy.” Jeff is a retired Air Force Colonel and airline pilot. He is a musician and nature photographer as well as care provider for the love of his life, his wife Summer. They have found that continuing to enjoy life and your goals is extremely important medicine in dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
