Gastric (Stomach) Cancer

Gastric cancer, also called stomach cancer, begins when cells in the stomach start to grow out of control. The stomach is in the upper middle part of the belly, just below the ribs. The stomach helps to break down and digest food.

Gastric cancer can happen in any part of the stomach. The most common type is adenocarcinoma, one that starts from the stomach’s inner lining. There are other types that start from middle or outer parts of the stomach, but they are relatively rare.
