Care Partner

When someone you love hears the words “you’ve got cancer,” it changes your life, too. At PEN, we define a “care partner” as someone who is involved in the patient’s journey, whether it’s

  • A partner, spouse, or parent who goes to all appointments and plays a key role in understanding and documenting the journey
  • An adult child who lives far away but who wants trusted information
  • A friend or relative who stays with the patient during treatment
  • Someone who helps out when side effects of treatment limit the patient’s ability to care for themself
  • Or many other roles connected to the patient.

In some situations, notably stem cell transplantation or CAR-T therapy, an informed care partner is essential to the success of the treatment and the safety of the patient. In every case, it is important for a patient to have someone who can be their eyes and ears when receiving what can feel like a firehose of information.

At PEN, we value your role and want to equip you with the knowledge you need to feel empowered as a care partner.
