Diagnosing MPNs begins with blood tests, followed by bone marrow biopsies and imaging, if needed, to confirm the diagnosis and assess disease progression.
The three types of MPNs include:
- Essential Thrombocythemia (ET): An overproduction of platelets
- Polycythemia Vera (PV): A higher-than-expected red blood cell mass (hematocrit)
- Myelofibrosis (MF): An advanced bone marrow failure state with scarring or fibrosis of the bone marrow
