Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a fast-growing type of cancer:

  • Acute means it develops quickly.
  • Myeloid refers to the type of cells it affects. Myeloid cells are a type of white blood cell that help your body fight infections and stay healthy. (Sometimes the word myelogenous is used instead of myeloid.)
  • Leukemia is cancer of the blood or bone marrow.
