Soft tissue sarcoma is a broad term for cancers that start in soft tissues of the body. The soft tissues connect, support and surround other body structures. Soft tissues include:

- Fat
- Lymph and blood vessels
- Nerves
- Tendons
- Lining of the joints
There are more than 50 types of soft tissue sarcoma, and they usually develop in the arms, legs, chest and the retroperitoneum
