Small Words, Big Differences: Best Practices in Supportive Care for Patients With AML
Both disease- and treatment-related characteristics of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) can impact patients’ physical, emotional, and social well-being. Poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL) can also have an effect on treatment adherence and long-term outcomes.
In this program in partnership with Peer Voice, Dr. Jacqueline S. Garcia and patient advocate Arthur Flatau, PhD, discuss best practices for enhancing patient-health care professional communication to improve outcomes in AML. The three-part conversation focuses on how understanding the patient experience can help create individualized treatment plans that address both medical and HRQoL needs, including mental health/resilience and physical health/activity. The three-parts include:
- Empowering Patients to Make Informed Treatment Decisions
- Best Practices in Coaching Patients’ Mental Health and Resilience
- Expanding Management Plans Beyond Treatment: The Importance of Physical Health and Activity
By working together, health care professionals and patients with AML can make informed decisions about diet, lifestyle, treatment adherence, and improving the overall treatment journey.
